Episode Review: WWE Raw – April 14th 2014

WWE Monday Night RAW-April 14 2014

BJCC Arena, Birmingham, Alabama

Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler asked the WWE Universe to join them as they honoured the Ultimate Warrior.  A video tribute was shown before the entire roster stood on the stage for a moment of silence.  A ten bell salute followed and then the Warrior’s music echoed the arena as the crowd chanted Warrior.

Rob Van Dam vs Alberto Del Rio

In the first of four first round matches to determine the number one contender for Big E’s Intercontinental Championship, Van Dam, countered the cross arm breaker with a roll up which only garnered a two count.  Del Rio attempted to go up top but RVD tripped him and travelled to the third floor where he delivered a ‘Five Star Frog Splash’ to advance to the semi-final, where he will meet the winner of the Mark Henry/Cesaro match.

After recapping what happened last week between the Authority, the Shield and Daniel Bryan… Triple H and Stephanie were shown talking amongst themselves.

When RAW returned from the commercial break, the Authority were backstage with Randy Orton and Batista.  Triple H told them that they had been having problems with the Shield and reminded them that if they were on the same page, they were unstoppable.  Both Orton and Batista said that all they wanted to do is be champion and the Authority were on their own.

The Rhodes Brothers vs Rybaxel

Cody Rhodes covered Ryback for two after a springboard elbow.  Curtis Axel sent Goldust outside of the ring and Cody hit him with the ‘Disaster Kick’.  Rhodes went for another one on Ryback but he ducked and hit the ‘Meat Hook Clothesline’ and Rybaxel emerged victorious.

Paige vs Alicia Fox

Alicia dominated the new Divas Champion for much of the match, but Paige wanted to prove that she wasn’t just a flash in the pan.  She did just that after defeating Fox with a ‘Scorpion Cross Lock’.

The Uso Brothers vs Randy Orton & Batista

The Usos came to the ring in Ultimate Warrior t-shirts with their faces painted like his.  Batista dropped Jimmy hard on the mat with a spinebuster.  The Uso showed resilience and reversed an Irish whip by ‘the Animal’ and slammed him with a Samoan drop.  Meanwhile, on the outside, Orton threw Jey over the announce table.  The Shield showed up and attacked ‘the Viper’.  The ‘Hounds of Justice’ surrounded the ring with Batista inside and moved in close for the attack.  Roman Reigns floored ‘the Animal’ with the ‘Superman Punch’ and he rolled towards the bottom rope where Orton helped him escape.

Backstage Triple H walked by and said “Told You” as the beaten Orton and Batista stared.

In the arena, Paul Heyman reminded everybody about Brock Lesnar beating the Undertaker at WrestleMania, before introducing his latest “Paul Heyman Guy” Cesaro.

Cesaro vs Mark Henry

Cesaro fought out of the ‘World’s Strongest Slam’ and levelled Henry with a European uppercut from the middle rope.  Cesaro showed his strength by picking up the ‘World’s Strongest Man’ and driving him through the mat with the ‘Neutralizer’ for the victory.  He will now meet RVD in the semi-final.

Backstage, Triple H told Brad Maddox to inform the Shield that they’d be competing in the main event, but not tell them who they’d be facing.

Alexander Rusev vs Xavier Woods

Lana came out and spoke to the crowd in Russian before introducing the ‘Bulgarian Brute’.  Rusev destroyed Xavier with a tilt a whirl slam and ‘the Accolade’.  The ‘Bulgarian Brute’ attacked R-Truth with a running kick to the head while he was aiding the fallen woods.

Sheamus vs Jack Swagger

In another first round match for number one contender ship to Big E’s Intercontinental Championship, Swagger applied the ‘Patriot Lock’ but Sheamus turned it over and kicked him in the jaw.  After some punishment on the outside Swagger brought the ‘Great White’ back into the ring.  As he charged at Sheamus, he was hit with the ‘Brogue Kick’ and the Irishman advanced.

When RAW returned from the break, the Wyatt Family entered the ring.  Bray once again talked about pushing Cena further to bring the monster out of him.  Cena came out to the stage and expressed that they are always so serious and that he wanted to have some fun.  He showed some photo shopped pictures of the Wyatts on various bodies before getting serious.  John challenged Bray to a cage match at Extreme Rules to which Bray happily accepted.

Fandango & Layla vs Santino Marella & Emma

With Summer Rae out of the picture, Layla showed superior dance moves.  Santino hip tossed Fandango and reached for the cobra.  Layla tagged in, which automatically brought Emma in.  Emma showed dominance and applied the ‘Dilemma’.  Emma went to the top rope and Layla pulled her off and covered her for the win.

In the Authority’s office Stephanie grilled Kane about letting his personal feelings get in the way of his job.  She asked what happened to the old Kane, she fired him up and Kane got in her face.  He told her that he is going to send Daniel Bryan to the depths of hell.  He looked at his mask that sat in a glass box.  He took it out and held it in his hands.

Dolph Ziggler vs Bad News Barrett

In the final first round match, Ziggler executed a face buster on Barrett from the top rope.  He couldn’t ‘Zig Zag’ Barrett but rolled him up for two.  Bad News almost scored a victory after the ‘Winds of Change’ but the ‘Show Off’ kicked out.  Although Ziggler ducked one ‘Bull Hammer’ he was hit with another and Bad News Barret advanced to meet Sheamus in the next round.

The Shield were in the ring waiting for their opponents.

The Shield vs Alberto Del Rio, Fandango, 3MB, Titus O’Neil, Jack Swagger, Bad News Barrett, Alexander Rusev & Rybaxel

The Shield showed unbelievable fight against eleven opponents.  Heath Slater absorbed much of the punishment.  On the outside the numbers game prevailed as Reigns and Ambrose were smothered.  Seth Rollins dived out of the ring onto the WWE roster and knocked all of them over.  Eventually, although still fighting and being impressive in the process, the numbers brought them down.

For the first time in nine years, Evolution’s music echoed through the arena. Out came Triple H, Batista and Randy Orton.  They told the WWE heels to get out and they annihilated the fallen Shield.  ‘The Animal’ used a series of ‘Batista Bombs’ to further incapacitate the ‘Hounds of Justice’.  Batista and Orton combined the ‘Batista Bomb’ and the ‘RKO’ on Ambrose, which definitely needs perfecting.  Reigns crawled towards ‘The Game’ and was heckled by the former DX member.   Triple H told Roman “Believe in Evolution” and ‘Pedigreed’ him.  Evolution were officially reunited and their music played once again, as they raised each other’s hands to end RAW with a bang.
