Episode Review: WWE Raw June 30th 2014

WWE Monday Night RAW-June 30 2014

The XL Center, Hartford, Connecticut

The Autority opened things up.  Stephanie McMahon said that she was born in Hartford and she knows that everyone feels privileged for that.  They came to celebrate the events of MITB.  It started with Daniel Bryan announcing that it would take longer for him to return than expected.  They were pleased that Seth Rollins captured the Money in the Bank briefcase and called him the future of the WWE.  Then Triple H introduced an A+ player and newly crowned WWE World Heavyweight Champion to the ring – John Cena.

Cena assured everybody that when Daniel Bryan returns, he’d give him a shot at the Championship.  Stephanie unveiled the cover of the WWE 2K15 which would feature John Cena on the cover.  Cena was suspicious about them being so nice to him so quickly, considering their reaction the night before.  Stephanie told him that they were concerned for Randy Orton.  Cena said that they have him, Kane and Rollins in their back pocket, but they can’t control him.  Triple H said he has no problem with and never has, as long as he carries the WWE World Heavyweight Championship with respect.  Hunter said that it can be taken away as quick as he won it.  He said that he can do things the easy way or the hard way (Where have I heard that before?).  Cena opted to do things the hard way.  Triple H made a match for Battleground where Cena would defend his title in a Fatal Four Way Match against Randy Orton, Kane and Roman Reigns.  If he were to win the match, he would truly be deserving of his Championship.  ‘The Game’ warned Cena that if he wins, there’s always a plan b.

Seth Rollins entered the arena and saw Cena in passing.  He celebrated with the Authority before his match.

Seth Rollins vs Rob Van Dam

Rollins had Van Dam hanging from the ropes.  He connected with the ‘Dragon Screw’ and delivered the ‘Curb Stomp’ to score an impressive victory.

Rollins spoke to Renee Young after the match and said that he should be referred to as ‘Mr Money in the Bank’.  He assured her that it wasn’t arrogance if you could back it up.  Dean Ambrose appeared and told Rollins that his plan a failed and it took Kane to make Ambrose lose.  He said that he wasn’t upset though, because this way it would be more fun.  He told Rollins that every time he tried to cash in, he would be there to haunt him.  Ambrose said that isn’t a contact in the case, it’s TNT and every time he tries to cash in, it would blow up in his face.

Lana and Rusev made their way into the arena.  Their verbal attacks on America seem to be getting worse.  Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter took exception and made their way out.  Uncle Zeb told Lana that he is sick of them coming out and slamming their country.  He explained that she can say these things because in America she has freedom of speech.  He pointed out that he does too and called them Boris and Natasha.  He said that she can’t say what she wants in her country, so she is taking advantage of the laws in the USA.  Zeb said Rusev can be defeated by a real American, Rusev charged at Swagger, but was arm dragged twice for his trouble.  He bailed out of the ring much to the delight of the fans.

Sheamus & The Uso Brothers vs The Wyatt Family

Bray side slammed Sheamus, then escaped a super kick by Jey Uso.  However, Jey didn’t see the devastating spinning ‘Lariat’ Luke Harper had waiting for him and it was lights out.

Tom Philips interviewed Nikki Bella backstage.  She said that she didn’t know that she wasn’t supposed to invite her sister Brie backstage.  Stephanie approached and told her that her and Brie had a match against the Funkadactyls, but it was too bad that Brie doesn’t work for the WWE anymore.  Nikki would be alone.

In the ring Bo Dallas asked for sixty seconds of silence for two Superstars who can’t compete at the moment – Bad News Barrett and Daniel Bryan.  Bo said that he was the inspiration for Daniel Bryan and also the bigger man for the insults he had received during the MITB pre-show.  Bo closed his speech with “Never stop Bo-lieveing”.

Nikki Bella vs The Funkadactyls

Nikki fought bravely, even delivering a face buster to Cameron for a two count.  Naomi came in and took care of things when she kicked the Bella Twin in the head and followed up with a high cross body off the top rope.  She laid Nikki to rest with her modified falling inverted DDT.  At the conclusion, Cameron got in Naomi’s face and started shouting and left the ring area.

Michael Cole sat at the announce table and confirmed that Bad News Barrett, will be out of action for a few months and the Intercontinental Championship is vacant.

Paul Heyman walked down the ramp and said how great it is that the Intercontinental Championship is vacant, because he is the one behind the one who won the Battle Royal at WrestleMania and now Cesaro would be the one to win the Intercontinental Championship.

Cesaro vs Kofi Kingston

In a really strange turn of events Kofi Kingston defeated Cesaro… well yes but he did it during the break.  How bitter sweet that was for Kofi.  He pulled off a first class performance at Money in the Bank and then he gets the nod for a big win only to have that happen.  After the pin fall, Cesaro destroyed Kingston.

Santino Marella was shown talking to his cobra about how nobody has shown up.  Adam Rose did and told Santino that it’s party time all the time.  The two of them danced with the rosebuds.

The theme music for Vince McMahon echoed through the arena.  Unfortunately Damien Sandow walked through the curtain dressed as him.  Vincent Kennedy McSandow took credit for Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold, Hulk Hogan and Triple H, but stated that the most talented performer to ever get in the ring is Damien Sandow.  He announced that Damien Sandow would be involved with the Intercontinental Championship Battle Royal at Battleground.  Stephanie McMahon appeared on the Titan Tron and scalded McSandown for disrespecting her father who had built an empire by toppling giants.  She made a match with another giant who would be in the Battle Royal.

Damien Sandow vs The Great Khali

Big Chop to Sandow and that’s all it took to beat Sandow.

The Miz returned to RAW and claimed he was bigger and better than the WWE after shooting a movie.  He was interrupted by another returning Superstar.

Chris Jericho came back to much fanfare much to the Miz’s dismay.  Miz asked Jericho if he had something to say or was he there to present a lifetime achievement award.  Miz was discusted by the interruption upon his return.  Jericho apologized with a ‘Code Breaker’.  “Damn that felt good”, he said.   Before Jericho could finish welcoming everyone to RAW is Jericho, They Wyatt Family cut him off.  They surrounded him and proceeded to beat him.  Bray laid him to rest with ‘Sister Abigail’.

Dolph Ziggler vs Fandango

Summer Rae came in and kissed the ‘Show Off’ and he kissed her back.  Fandango let his guard down with Ziggler and asked Summer what she was doing.  Dolph planted him with the ‘Zig Zag’ for the win.

Rybaxel vs Goldust & Stardust

Stardust delivered the ‘Disaster Clothesline’ to Ryback.  Curtis Axel tried to intervene, but Stardust fought him off and beat Ryback with ‘Diamond Dust’.

Paige came to the ring and said that she is a woman of few words and lets her actions do the talking.  She feels that after three months of being in the WWE, she has proven herself.  Another returning Superstar cut her off.  AJ Lee said that Paige is right.  She did what no other could do and that was beat her for the title.  AJ reminded her that she is the longest reigning Divas Champion and thanked Paige for the reality check.  She said that she is back to do what Paige did the night after WrestleMania and that is take the WWE Divas title home with her.  Paige said that she doesn’t think people want to see the title defended.  The crowd roared “YES” and AJ asked them for confirmation… “YES”.

WWE Divas Championship Match: Paige vs AJ Lee

AJ started out hastily, but Paige came back with a kick to the chest and connected with multiple head butts.   Finally AJ slapped the taste out of Paige’s mouth and rolled her up for three.

Triple H joins the announce team for commentary during the next match.

Randy Orton & Kane vs John Cena & Roman Reigns

Kane and Reigns brawled until the former ‘Hound of Justice’ delivered a Samoan drop.  Both men made tags.  Cena dropped a ‘Five Knuckle Shuffle’ on Orton and Kane.  Orton snuck up on the Champ and hit the ‘RKO’.  Roman Reigns came in and tossed ‘The Viper’ to the outside and took Kane out with the ‘Superman Punch’.  Orton and Reigns fought all the way to the back.  Meanwhile, Kane picked up the steel steps and blasted Cena in the face with them.  So there’s the disqualification for Cena’s team.  The ‘Demon’ dropped Cena on the steps with a tombstone and got back in the ring.  Seth Rollins ran to the ring to cash in his contract.  Before the match could start, Dean Ambrose showed up and fought with Rollins through the crowd.  Triple H climbed in and told Kane to get a chair.  Before Kane could do any damage, Roman Reigns reappeared and speared Kane.  They usual stare downs took place to conclude RAW.
